Ancient Galaxy Feedback Thread

Good Morning!

I was alerted to this fine game via a piece on Rock, Paper, Shotgun wherein they mentioned this game was out.  I grabbed the demo and played through the first level.  I thought the game was a nice mix of Action / Adventure / RPG and seemed to be just what I wanted to scratch my explorative urges while allowing me some diversity in how I approach situations and character customization.  My biggest complaint about the starting level might be that some text in some places overflowed their text containers and some word wraps were a little off.  Another thing that would be nice would be the ability to re-read some of the messages.  For example, if you go by the dying ship mate more than once, he dies multiple times.  This is good since it gives you a clue on progression.  However, if you go by a statue earlier and are walking fast when you hit the trigger, you may walk right through the explaining text.

After that introductory level, I was placed on my ship and fiddled a bit with the ship, but then I replayed the first level.  There were some minute differences in the weapons I get, so that randomization is greatly appreciated and made me realize the game wasn't completely static.  I work back through the level and get to the ship.  It is a little overwhelming all the different devices on the ship, but having that much choice feels fantastic, even if it's not really utilized until later.  I played through the next 2 (or is it 4 since there were actual divides in the game world, loading disparate levels?) levels, had some crazy fire fights where I had to turn the difficulty down to easy (but only after I died 3 times in the same location, teehee) then progress a bit and go back to normal when I wasn't pinned down.  I am having a blast playing.

The game does feel a little rough, and there are some things I dislike about the interface, namely the inability to remap certain functionality, but it is a rough jewel.  It would be nice to be able to return to the ship without dying.  It would be nice to have multiple profiles per windows logon.  It would be nice to have a toggle for First Person mode in game so I could switch between 3rd and First on the fly (unless that's saved for Wex or editing the settings file where the saved games are).  I also would like some kind of single use quicksave for when I can't plan to have to exit the game. The voice acting actually made my wife turn around and ask why the guy was so monotone and if something was wrong with my computer.  heh

After playing through those 3-5 levels the demo offers and still wanting to continue, I went ahead and purchased the game.  It's fun, y'all are an independent team that spent a good 4 years plus on this project, and it's a good, solid game I want to play more of.  I've loved the shareware model for 20 years and I wanted to support this model as well.  I would be more than happy to give more detailed feedback if desired, but right now I've got some tunnels in Sorrow Canyon to try to work through before I have to earn a living.

Thank you for the wonderful fun so far.  Excellent Work.

-EDITED- in a couple more points I thought of.  The only thing better than feedback is more feedback.
